We received Addison’s acceptance letter this week for kindergarten! I admit that I’ve been worried about this since last fall. At pre-k orientation night the school administration stated that they have over 60 families apply for kindergarten but they only accept 20 students. I was hopeful that we’d have a spot since Addison has been going there since she was 2 and Enzo is currently enrolled there as well. In the back of my mind I was thinking about my meeting with the principal a few months back where he stated that we were known as one of the “golden families” of the school. I’m happy and relieved that Addison will be able to continue her schooling here. The teachers at her school are wonderful, the curriculum is top notch and most importantly the kids love it there.
Last week was a very somber week at the school. A 4 year old school mate of Addison’s passed away from brain cancer. Last week was a roller coaster of emotions.
An email was sent to the families an hour after K passed away. The director met me at the entrance on Wednesday to explain what they told the kids about death and K. When Addison got in the car she said to me: “Mommy, K had a big boo boo and was very sick and now he’s in heaven. He will never get to see his family again but he is with Jesus now and he is healthy and no longer sick. Today I made a card for K's parents.” I quietly cried in the front seat trying to imagine the pain and loss K’s parents were going through. K has a twin brother who was back at school on Thursday as his parents wanted him to maintain his routine and be surrounded by his friends. Many thoughts and prayers going out to K’s family.
