One Month Appt

Today was Enzo's one month appt. Since one month fell so close to the holidays today was the soonest we could get an appt.

His 5 week stats are:

• Weight: 11lbs 6oz (90th percentile)
• Height: 22 3/4 inches (90th percentile)
  
• Head: 15 1/4 inches (75th percentile)

Birth Stats: 8lbs 15oz, 2o inches

He received his first Hepatitis B shot since we never received one in the hospital. The Dr also put silver nitrate on his belly button because it had some drainage and granules. The Dr checked Addison's ears while we were there and her ear infection is cleared up.

Enzo is such a good baby. He was sleeping 18 hours a day until a few days ago. He is so content and rarely cries. He is waking up once a night and goes 5 hour stretches of sleep during the night. We've seen a few smiles out of him and they are the sweetest things ever! When you talk and interact with him his eyebrows raise up and he starts wiggling and moving his arms and has started to coo in response. Love it!!

Murphy's Law...

states that the week of Christmas, Family pics, Celebrating Christmas with my brother and his family for the first time in 4 years and meeting my niece (who's 1) for the first time everything that can happen will happen...

Addison tipped her princess car over and landed face first resulting in a fat lip, scab on her lip, scab under her nose and chin. She also woke up from nap yesterday complaining of ear pain. I took her to the Dr and she has an ear infection and pink eye.

Enzo was repeatedly throwing up after each feeding (breast milk and formula) and having diarrhea for several days. Found out he has a milk allergy and is now strictly on soy formula that is non-milk based and lactose free.

As for me since I've slowed down on pumping one of my milk ducts became clogged...OMG was that painful!! Then I wake up this morning feeling like I'm getting a cold, ugh!!

Here's hoping the week ends better than it started!!

Tasty Tuesday: Scrambled Egg Brunch Bread

SCRAMBLED EGG BRUNCH BREAD

2 tubes (8oz) refrigerated crescent rolls
4oz thinly sliced deli ham, julienned
4oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup milk
8 eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
2 T. chopped green onions
1/4 cup chopped sweet red pepper
1 tsp. butter
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1. Unroll each tube of crescent dough (do not separate rectangles) Place side by side on a greased baking sheet with long sides touching; seal seams and perforations. Arrange ham lengthwise down center third of rectangle.

2. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and milk until smooth. Separate one egg yolk; set egg white aside. Add the egg yolk, salt, pepper and remaining eggs to cream cheese mixture; mix well. Stir in red pepper and onions.

3. In a large skillet, melt butter; add egg mixture. Cook and stir over medium heat just until set. Remove from heat. Spoon scrambled eggs over ham. Sprinkle with cheese.

4. On each long side of dough, cut 1 inch wide strips to center within 1/2 inch of filling. Starting at one end, fold alternating strips at an angle across the filling. Pinch ends to seal and tuck under.

5. Beat reserved egg white; brush over dough. Bake at 375º for 25-28 minutes or until golden brown.

Yield: 6 servings

Parenting Fail = Not realizing your daughter put on her old scuffed shoes

2 Years of Separation

This blog post may be all over the place so please forgive me as I try to put this all in writing.

2 years ago this month Brian was offered a promotion. This promotion meant our family having to move to South Florida. We weighed the pros and cons and ultimately decided that the promotion would be a great career move for Brian and he accepted the offer.

We had three weeks to find a place in South Florida, rent out the home we own in North Florida, pack up and move, and for me to find a job. Addison was 8 months old at this time.

During this time the job economy was suffering and jobs were hard to find. I was in this category and wasn’t able to find a job that meet my criteria. Thankfully my job (in North Florida) allowed me to work from home two days a week and be onsite three days a week. This began 2 years of commuting back and forth from North Florida to South Florida. On Thursdays after work I would pick up Addison from daycare, feed her, pack up the car and make the 2.5 hour drive to our condo in South Florida. I’d work remotely from the condo on Fridays and Mondays then Monday evening make the 2.5 hour drive back to North Florida. This being said since we had rented out our home in anticipation of me being in South Florida full time I had to find a place to stay (in North Florida) while working onsite during the week. Luckily my parents bought a 2nd home in North Florida that they use only a few weeks out of the year so I stay there during the week.

These last two years have been challenging to say the least. I never thought I’d be a “single mom” or be living separately from my husband. I try not to complain about it because we have so much to be thankful for but being a single mom while pregnant was really hard and now that Enzo’s been born I’ll be a single mom during the week to 2 kids.

Starting in the third trimester of my pregnancy with Enzo I no longer made the commute and stayed at my parent’s home in North Florida. Brian now makes the drive every weekend to see us but our time with him is just 24 hours before he heads back to South Florida. The distance has remarkably made our marriage stronger. We cherish the one day a week we get to spend as a family.

My Dad retired a few months ago and came down to help out the last few weeks of my pregnancy. He’s planning to stay through the holidays but will be returning to Nebraska in January. I will miss his help and having him around but he’s promised to return soon to help out.

So as I return to work in a month I will be taking care of two kids, doing two daycare drop-offs and pick-ups since Addison’s daycare doesn’t take kids until they are one, keeping up the house, bills, cooking, etc by myself. I never imagined raising two kids by myself and I can only imagine all the challenges that lie ahead. I get overwhelmed just thinking about it but I keep reminding myself that things have a way of working themselves out. I will remain patient and continue to be thankful for my family whether we all live together or not.

I hope that by next December we will be living as a family again.

Watch Me Grow - Week 2

Weight: 9lbs 7oz
Clothing: Already outgrown most newborn clothes. Now wearing 3 Months.
Diapers: Newborn
Night time Sleep: Wakes every 3 hours to eat and be changed then goes back to sleep.
Updates: Got circumcised last week. Has an eye infection and is now on prescription ointment to clear it up. Addison had the same thing at this age.
